Service Detail · On-Site Shredding

On-site hard drive shredding at your Canada premises.

When data-bearing media cannot leave your premises in media-bearing form — common at hospitals, bank trading floors, government-cleared sites — destruction has to happen on-site. Mobile shred unit (truck-mounted industrial shredder, <2mm particle size) or witnessed-wipe operator. Document pack identical to in-facility destruction.

Two on-site formats

Mobile shred vs witnessed-wipe — when each fits.

Both formats run with the same two-operator + witness sign-off discipline. The choice depends on whether physical destruction is required or wipe is acceptable per the data-classification policy.

  • Mobile shred unit · Truck-mounted industrial shredder positioned at loading bay or designated outdoor area. HDDs, SSDs (with Li-ion care), tape, optical media. Output captured in sealed bins for downstream recycling.
  • Witnessed-wipe operator · NIST 800-88 Clear / Purge performed on-site by our trained operator. Customer team member witnesses each device. Wipe log captured live on operator's secure terminal; signed both sides.
  • Hybrid · Some devices wiped, some shredded — per-asset decision per data classification. Both run during the same on-site visit.
What the customer provides

Site requirements for on-site destruction

  • Vehicle access for the mobile shred unit (typical 8-12 tonne truck) — loading bay or designated outdoor space.
  • Power connection if shredder needs external power (some units are self-contained).
  • Customer-side witness — typically IT-asset-management or compliance team member.
  • Designated quiet hours if on-site shred would disturb neighbouring tenants.
  • Safety briefing per your facility's standard contractor-induction process.
  • Storage for sealed shred bins until our truck departs (if multi-day on-site).
Cost and lead time vs in-facility

What the on-site premium covers.

On-site destruction is typically 15-25% more expensive than in-facility. The premium covers the mobile-unit dispatch, additional operator time on-site, and the longer turn-around for sealed-bin transit back to recycler downstream.

Lead time: 5-10 business days from SoW signature to on-site execution. Tighter timelines achievable for genuine urgency — we have done 48-hour turnarounds for regulator-deadline-driven destructions.

FAQs · 2 questions

Maxicom Canada — frequently asked

Can on-site shredding handle SSDs?

Yes. Modern industrial shredders handle SSDs to <2mm particle size. Note: large lithium-ion battery components may require separate handling for safety; we coordinate that on a per-job basis.

How long does on-site shredding take?

Typical capacity: 200-500 drives per hour for industrial mobile shred. A 1,000-drive on-site session is a 2-4 hour shred-time, plus setup + breakdown + witnessed sign-off; figure half-day to one-day on-site.
